Royal Order of the Polar Star [Kungliga Nordstjärneorden]. The collar (without the jewel), older version with closed crowns, consisting of 13 monogram and 12 star links, gilt bronze and partly enamelled, cracks and chips in the white and blue enamel. ZK2 3433. R II-III
Probably made in the first half of the 19th century. On 23 February 1748, King Frederick I of Sweden (from the House of Hesse-Kassel) founded the order, which initially had two classes (Commander and Knight), together with the Royal Seraphim Order and the Royal Sword Order. In 1762, King Gustav III founded collars for the commanders. In 1844, King Oscar I established the Grand Cross class, known as Commander with Grand Cross. In 1860, King Carl XV established a Commander's breast star and in 1873, on the occasion of his coronation, King Oscar II divided the Commander class into 1st Class Commanders (with breast star) and 2nd Class Commanders (without breast star, known as Commanders from 1952), with the latter class being reserved for foreigners until 1889. As early as 1871, the previously embroidered breast stars had officially been converted into metal stars, the arm surfaces of which were diamond-studded until 1919, scaled from 1919 to 1951 and smooth from that time on. In special cases, the insignia of all classes could also be awarded with diamonds. On 6 June 1973, the Swedish Parliament decided to stop awarding the Order of the Polar Star to Swedish citizens with effect from 1 January 1975. With the 1975 reform of the Swedish order system, the class of knights was also divided into 1st class knights and knights, and a new ribbon colour (blue with a yellow border) was introduced. In 1986, King Carl XVI Gustav founded the affiliated Nordsternmedaille (Nordstern Medal) for the order. The order received new statutes on 1 August 1995.

Chain of honour
Category: Chains of Honour
Size: Length 700 mm Width 50 mm Weight 166 g
Date of manufacture: 1900 assumed by Livrustkammaren. However an identical Collar is at the Gothenborg Stadsmuseum in Gøteborg. A person, Carl Fredrik Wærn, was awarded an identical collar on 1873.05.14. The photos are not so sparkling as the ones from the Livrustkammaren. The Stadsmuseum is under renovation and photos will be better as time passes. I have then noted that this current one from Livrustkammaren also is from about 1870.
More info on the Wærn collar will be updated when data is available.
