This is a very unique looking St Olav order. A note indicated it had been awarded to a German Officer for the China war 1900-02. Still no definite information to confirm this. First of all this
is a St Olav in Silver that should only have been made by Tostrup in Oslo between 1890 and 1905. Obviusly this is not a Tostrup version. This carry a Carlman crown and hinge. The
swords are not seen in other Scandinavian orders either. This is a typical German sword setup.
Difficult to say who has made this. It can be made for a German officer and then he has remodelled it to look like a German style. Or he can also have made it from parts contained at a
local jeweller. One day the real history may be found.
One should not forget that orders are not always traced from day one. So he might have been awarded the Knight 2 in Stockholm, and it may have been adjusted somewhere else later?
