The cape star of the Commander of the Order of the North Star, Sweden, 1860-1871.

Description.

Swedish: Maltese Cross. Embroidered with silver lances and canticles. Above the centre of the cross a five-pointed faceted star of silver lances and cantillions.

On the reverse side white leather.

2011: Sweden. Royal Order of the North Star. Commander's Star for commanders of the 1st class. Privately made Star from the period 1860-1871. The Commander's Stars for Commanders of the Order of the Sword, the Order of the North Star and the Order of the Vasa was introduced in 1860 when the Commanders were entitled to it. In 1873, in May for the coronation of Oscar II, the Commander's rank was divided into two: Commander 1 and 2. Commanders of the 2nd class were awarded until 1889 only to foreigners and. Only in this year were Swedish subjects also allowed to receive this honour. Provenance unknown in 2011.

Carl Axel Vilhelm Flensburg, born on 29 November 1856 in Lund, died on 24 March 1919, was a Swedish physician.

Miniatures, 12 of them, attached to a metal band, belonged to the donor's father, Carl Flensburg, the first life physician.

Miniature chain of 18k gold, probably made by Court and Order Jeweller C. F. Carlman, Stockholm

From the button the chain contains the following orders and decorations:

King Oscar's and Queen Sophia's Golden Wedding commemorative plaque 1907, 6 June (designed by Prince Eugene),

King Oscar II's jubilee memorials from the 25th anniversary of his reign in 1897,

Italian Order of the Crown,

The laurel wreath ornament probably for the Belgian Order of the Crown,

The Luxembourg Order of the Echo,

Saxon Order of the White Falcon

And finally another Order of the North Star made considerably earlier around 1860-1870, which Flensburg cannot have worn on its chain.

In Sweden we do not wear several signs of the same order unless these were awarded with diamonds.iniatures.

Could be late 1700. Large smoothe surface on arm were normally made into two 'parts'. But one part in Vasa drawings from 1772. Very thick in same part. No GC existed at that time. Only Commander w/ and wo/ star.

KINGDOM OF SWEDEN Royal Order of the North Star [Kungliga Nordstjärneorden] (1748). The Breast Star for Commander I. Class [Kommandörskraschan], 2nd issue (with brilliant cross arms - 1871-1919), is a larger version from before 1912, measuring 75.2 x 75.4 mm. It is made of silver brilliant and repercussed, and the cross arms are reinforced at the narrow points. It does not have any hallmarks, and the star is attached by a screw and round nut.

To be notet: The arms of the star has silver diamond in rows. Between each row there are 'walls' dividing them. This is considered a specific of the Christian Hammer jeweller.

Embroidered star for the Commander of the Order of the North Star worn by Bishop Wilhelm Flensburg in Lund Sweden.

The Order of the North Star is Swedish and was instituted by Frederick I in 1748.

This order was awarded to Wilhelm Flensburg on 1 December 1875 by Oscar II.
