In certain rare cases, a person could be awarded an brillianted Order of the Sword. This usually occurred if the person had done something personal for the King or the royal family. Unlike the ordinary insignia, the brilliant insignia had a special status: on the one hand, the insignia was personal property and did not have to be returned to the King on the death of the holder, and on the other hand, the holder would also wear the lower ranks even if a higher one had been awarded.
The following persons have received the Swedish brillianted order of the Sword:
- Frederik Wilhelm Stabell, riddare med briljanter, 1814.
- Magnus Brahe, kommendör med stora korset med briljanter, 1830.
- Robert Fredrik von Kraemer, riddare med briljanter, 1834.
- Gustaf Adolf Fleming, riddare med briljanter, 1834.
- Ferdinand Carl Maria Wedel Jarlsberg, riddare med Briljanter.
- Andrej Andrejovitj Bodisco, riddare med briljanter, 1838.
- Pehr Gustaf Hjelm, riddare med briljanter, 1839.
- Erik August Lewenhaupt, riddare med briljanter, 1843.
- Axel Gabriel Leijonhufvud, riddare med briljanter, 1863.
- Carl Adolf Melcher Lagerfelt, riddare med briljanter, 1882.
